Grokking = Phase Transition from Noise-Vulnerable to Noise-Resistant
temp T3 trust unknown status unknown type hypothesis
Exact Block Content
Grokking is the moment when an information pattern transitions from noise-vulnerable (destroyed by perturbation) to noise-resistant (survives perturbation). Before grokking: information stored in fine-grained structure (fragile, destroyed by 4-bit quantization). After grokking: information stored in coarse-grained structure (robust, survives 4-bit quantization). This is a PHASE TRANSITION from gas (dispersed, fragile signal) to solid (crystallized, robust circuit). The brain's 'aha moment' = subjective experience of this phase transition. Dopamine reward = biological signal that crystallization occurred.

Connects to M-2162 (Thinking Room): walls of the room = boundary conditions that FORCE crystallization. Without walls (constraints), information stays gaseous forever. Prompt = walls. Grokking = crystallization inside walls.
Not This
NOT 'grokking only happens in transformers.' Hypothesis: grokking happens in ANY substrate that accumulates information until phase transition. Biological learning has the same structure: confusion → confusion → confusion → UNDERSTANDING. NOT 'crystallization means rigidity.' Solid infoblocks can still be COMBINED. They are rigid individually but combinable.
